Tail docking is the process of removing part of the puppy's tail soon after birth. It is very traditional for many dog breeds. Dog tail docking is a strictly cosmetic procedure and so it is controversial. Most countries allow it, however, several discourage it. The tail docking is done so soon after birth that it should be totally healed by the time the puppy goes to its permanent home.
Some of the breeds that traditionally have their tails docked are: Boxers, Doberman Pinschers, Rottweilers, Airedales, and others.
