Non-Shedding Dogs

Many people want a non-shedding, hypo-allergenic dog for a variety of reasons. Shedding dogs tend to leave your house a mess several times a year. This is something many dog owners just accept. It’s a willing sacrifice for the benefit of having man’s best friend. All dogs shed to some degree. Although, some dogs definitely shed less than others. These dogs are referred to as non-shedding. The amount of hair they shed is about as much as humans which is hardly noticeable. Dogs who do not have much of an undercoat are the ones that are usually called non-shedding.

Some of the non-shedding breeds are: Poodles, Shih Tzus, Schnauzers, Lhasa Apsos, and of course the hairless, Chinese Crested. It is a common idea that short-hair dogs would shed far less than long-haired dogs. That statement is simply not true! As cute as they are, darling pugs shed a ton! So, having some knowledge as to the shedding expectations you should have surrounding the type of dog breed you are looking for is useful.

There really isn’t a dog that is hypoallergenic. Although, there are dogs that give off much less dander and allergens than other breeds. Since some dogs do shed less, it may be manageable for some people that have asthma and allergies. Obviously though, if you cannot handle fur without an asthma attack, a dog or cat is not for you.
