Giardia Question

We adopted a male black lab mix puppy from a shelter 2 weeks ago. During
his examination, he was estimated to be 14 weeks old and weighed 35 pounds
and he had a stool test that showed he had giardia. We took in another
stool sample today (one week later) to be sure the treatment on the
giardia worked. He was weighed today and was 45 pounds! Is it normal
(and healthy) for a large breed puppy to gain 10 pounds in 1 week? We
feed him 1 1/2 cups 3 times per day of Natural Balance All Stages food and
he still thinks he is starving all the time! They told us he was only fed
once per day at the shelter. I was just surprised a puppy could gain that
much weight so fast. He is for sure going to be a big boy – he has a big
face and big paws and a great big heart of love and affection!

That is wonderful that you saved a puppy from a shelter. I am so grateful you had him taken to the vet to have him checked out. Giardia can be a horrible disease which causes weight loss and diarrhea. Since you have taken care of the Giardia he will definitly have a bigger appetite because he feels a lot better. It sounds like your new dog is just catching up to what he should be weighing. He is going to be a big dog and much more to love than you first expected.
